This British Standard gives recommendations for the installation, maintenance, inspection, thoroughexamination and safe use of fixed and mobile vehicle lifts.

It is applicable to vehicle lifts consisting of one or more lifting units, designed to raise vehicles totallyfor the purpose of examining and working on or under the vehicles whilst in a raised position onhorizontal ground.

This document does not apply to vehicle lifts where the carrying device can be tilted, or vehicle liftsintended to lift persons.
